Cryogenic Carbon Capture Project Wins Asian Power Awards – R&D Project of the Year (Saudi Arabia)

11 December, 2025

The Cryogenic Carbon Capture (CCC) project, led by Professor Bill Roberts and delivered in partnership with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), has been awarded the Asian Power Awards – R&D Project of the Year (Saudi Arabia) for its contribution to advancing sustainability in the energy sector.

This recognition highlights the project’s pioneering approach to carbon and pollutant capture, and its role in driving forward practical, scalable solutions aligned with national decarbonization goals.

KAUST’s Cryogenic Carbon Capture technology provides a mobile, flexible, and efficient system capable of capturing multiple pollutants through a single cryogenic process—all with minimal impact on existing operations. Designed to integrate easily with industrial sites, the system enables real‑world deployment of advanced capture solutions without requiring major modifications to infrastructure.
